Jakub Szachnowski

Born in 1998 in Nowy Sącz, Poland.
Visual artist, curator, designer and publisher. He studies at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He previously studied at the Institute of Creative Photography at Silesian University in Opava and at the Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. His practice centres on photography and the photobook, while also encompassing video art, film, animation, installation, mapping and scenography. Founder of RUST Publishing, an independent publishing house promoting contemporary photography and emerging authors. His work includes book design, editing and production, exhibition curation and the organisation of art events. He is also the founder of the Południe Foundation and a co-founder of the RUST bookshop in Kraków.
His photobooks include “The Hawk” (2023) and “The Proof” (2026). He has presented his projects and publishing activities at The Photographers’ Gallery in London, Photo London, Polycopies in Paris, Les Rencontres d’Arles and OFF Bratislava. His work has also been exhibited at Wawel Royal Castle and the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów. He received the Pix.house Foundation’s Talent of the Year award in 2023 and a City of Kraków Creative Scholarship in 2022.

Artysta wizualny, kurator, designer i wydawca. Studiuje na Wydziale Grafiki Akademii Sztuk Pięknych im. Jana Matejki w Krakowie. Były student Instytutu Twórczej Fotografii Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Opawie oraz Wydziału Intermediów krakowskiej ASP. Jego praktyka koncentruje się na fotografii i książce fotograficznej, obejmując również video art, film, animację, instalację, mapping i scenografię. Zalożyciel RUST Publishing — niezależnego wydawnictwa promującego współczesną fotografię i debiutujących autorów. Zajmuje się projektowaniem, redakcją i produkcją publikacji, kuratorowaniem wystaw oraz organizacją wydarzeń artystycznych. Założyciel Fundacji Południe i współtwórca księgarni RUST w Krakowie.
Autor książek fotograficznych, m.in. „The Hawk” (2023) i „The Proof” (2026). Prezentował swoje projekty i działalność wydawniczą m.in. w The Photographers’ Gallery w Londynie oraz podczas Photo London, Polycopies w Paryżu, Les Rencontres d’Arles i OFF Bratislava. Jego prace pokazywano również w Zamku Królewskim na Wawelu i Muzeum Pałacu Króla Jana III w Wilanowie. Laureat Talentu Roku 2023 Fundacji Pix.house oraz Stypendium Twórczego Miasta Krakowa w 2022 roku.
